Spinal physiotherapy (back and neck pain)
Spinal physiotherapy (back and neck pain)
Back and neck issues are among the most common issues seen by physiotherapists. As such, physiotherapists are considered to be experts in the treatment of spinal conditions. We can assess your condition and provide you with the most appropriate treatment and advice to help you overcome your condition.
- Low Back Pain – Low back pain is the worlds leading cause of disability. Did you know that low back pain affects an estimated 540 million people worldwide according to the World Health Organisation? There are numerous symptoms that can be associated with low back pain, including sciatic nerve pain, loss of movement, loss of strength, referred pain, and numbness or pins and needles in the legs.
- Thoracic Pain and Neck Pain – Pain in the mid to upper back (thoracic pain) and neck pain are also common and are often associated with symptoms radiating or referring into the shoulders and arms. Neck pain is also one of the leading causes of cervicogenic headaches.
- Spinal Conditions – We treat and advise on a multitude of spinal conditions. This includes disorders affecting the spines shape such as scoliosis, kyphosis or Scheuermann’s disease. We can also treat issues considered to be degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative disc disease, or spondylosis and similar conditions affecting the vertebrae. Additionally, we can help with immune or inflammatory conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
What does all this mean for you? It means you can be confident you'll receive expert care to help manage your spinal condition. We use a variety of manual (hands-on) techniques including massage, trigger point therapy, or dry needling to help alleviate pain. However, we don't stop there. We will also provide education on what the likely cause of your pain is and provide a tailored exercise program to help manage your pain in the long term too.
Musculoskeletal physiotherapy
Musculoskeletal physiotherapy
Similar to back pain, musculoskeletal conditions are an extremely prevalent group of conditions, accounting for up to 92% of issues encountered by some physiotherapists. Broadly speaking musculoskeletal conditions encompass any issues experienced relating to joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, or anything else involved in the movement of the body. Whether it’s a recent injury, chronic pain, stiffness and or weakness holding you back from being your best, we can help.

In the below drop down boxes, you'll find some additional information such as causes of pain in the relevant regions of the body. Each section can be classified as a subsection of musculoskeletal pain and as such the treatment techniques and approaches mentioned above all apply for these sections too.
Sports Physiotherapy
Sports Physiotherapy
As physiotherapists we regularly deal with sporting injuries, from the local amateur level right through to the professional level. We work with patients from all types of professional and leisure sports backgrounds, including those who participate in football, netball, running, tennis, golf, lawn bowls, cricket, basketball, rock-climbing, hiking, cycling and everything in-between.
Physiotherapists can help you with a number of issues relating to your sports and physical activities, including:
- Acute Injuries – Joint sprains, muscle strains and injuries are common and can occur in any sport or activity. Intervention with a physiotherapist can help in all stages of your recovery. From initial pain management, through to rehabilitating the area for a return to sport, as well as planning and advice on ongoing injury prevention.
- Chronic Injuries – These can include repetitive injuries to a specific area, chronic pain, stiffness, or a lack of mobility. Chronic pain can have a negative impact on both our performance and our enjoyment of our chosen activity. Assessing and getting to the root cause of the problem, and not just managing the symptoms, is key in understanding and managing these issues.
- Performance Issues – There are many physical attributes that affect our performance. Our strength, balance, mobility and flexibility all contribute to how we perform, and an issue in any one of these areas can hold us back from reaching our potential. Whether that be improving our swing, our kick, our throw or bowling action. Assessing the issue and developing a plan with your physiotherapist to address this, can be a huge contributor in improving your performance, at any level of sport.
